I Want to Help

You can make a BIG difference.

Imagine the challenges faced by first-century Christians as they labored to build the early Christian church.

In many ways, the situation is similar today in Eastern Europe. Many people identify with a particular denomination, but rarely or never attend church.

Fewer and fewer people know Jesus. And from their previous experience of living under Communism, they are slow to trust any organization with authority, including organized religion.

That's tough ground to break. But we know that with God all things are possible.

In the entire country of Croatia, there's exactly one Global Methodist Church. It's located in the capital city of Zagreb, and it is poised to make big impact.

The church owns a physical meeting space, and they have a small but growing congregation of believers. Pastor Vatroslav Župančić and his wife Danijela have volunteered their time and energy to make it happen — while also working full-time jobs to make ends meet.

The seeds are planted, but we need your help!

Please partner with us today to help spread the Wesleyan gospel in Croatia.

Here's how can you make a BIG difference.

We need your prayers and financial support.

Pastor Vatroslav is presently bivocational: he has a full-time job apart from his church mission. So the greatest need and initial goal is to raise on-going funding that will make it possible for him to focus entirely on shepherding the congregation, managing church administration, and engaging in evangelism.

The average salary in Croatia, including health insurance, is approximately $30,000 annually ($2500/mo).

Please consider becoming an on-going partner in this mission. Your dollars will go a long way and will have a BIG impact.

Think of Vatroslav like a missionary. Your on-going contributions are much like supporting a missionary working abroad.

Funds donated beyond those used to replace his salary will be used to further the efforts of the church. We need financial support for audio/visual equipment—particularly for recording and publishing content online. We also have needed renovations to the front entrance of our church building.

Learn more about Croatia.

Croatia is a country of 4 million people situated at the crossroads of Western, Eastern, and Southern Europe. It is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, stunning coastline, and rich historical heritage. Croatians invented the necktie, a beloved fashion accessory worn by many, including preachers. The brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla hailed from Croatia, and despite its small size, the nation has achieved remarkable success in sports.

Croatia was an independent kingdom in the Middle Ages before becoming part of the Habsburg Monarchy and later Yugoslavia. The country gained its independence through a violent war in the 1990s. Today, Croatia is a member of the European Union and NATO and continues to make steady economic progress.

Christianity has been present in the region since its earliest days—the New Testament even mentions Dalmatia. Numerous visible and archaeological remnants of churches and monasteries testify to the long-standing presence of both Eastern and Western Christianity in Croatia. However, the country is predominantly Roman Catholic, with Protestant and Evangelical churches making up less than one percent of the population.

Learn more about Vatroslav.

Born into a Roman Catholic family, Pastor Vatroslav once considered becoming a priest during his childhood. However, his youth was marked by participation in the Croatian War of Independence.

For years, he struggled to find answers to life’s most essential questions. Then, at 23, his heart was “strangely warmed” while reading a book by a Lutheran pastor and after meeting a group of young evangelical believers.

Following his dramatic conversion, he felt called to become a preacher and pastor. He pursued theological studies in church history and later served as a pastor in Germany’s United Methodist Church.

As a passionate defender of the faith, he became a chairperson in the local branch of the Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA). However, his advocacy forced him to leave pastoral ministry in Germany. In response, the Methodist Church in Croatia called him to lead its renewal efforts. Today, Pastor Vatroslav serves bi-vocationally alongside his wife, Danijela, and their two children.

Our church and our vision.

The congregation in Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, started nearly from scratch. After Pastor Vatroslav joined the Global Methodist Church in 2022, the church began experiencing growth. What started as small gatherings in an apartment later moved to a larger space. Finally, last year, the church was able to relocate to its newly renovated worship center in the city, which it now owns. Church attendance continues to rise, and exciting plans are underway for the future.

Our vision is to make disciples of Christ and train them in Wesleyan-Holiness teaching. We also seek to reach our neighborhood through acts of love and charity, influencing society with a renewal of Judeo-Christian values. We actively participate in the pro-life movement and support persecuted Christians worldwide.

Our children and youth ministry is growing rapidly, creating a great need for additional ministers.

We aim to spread the gospel through media (both social and public), organize community events, and expand our publishing efforts. We have already published a theological biography of John Wesley in Croatian and are working on several other important titles.
